Proactiv Review
The Proactiv Treatment System is a fairly new and well known acne relief product from Guthy-Renker LLC. It has featured several high profile celebrities to help endorse the product including Jessica Simpson, P Diddy and Kelly Clarkson. The Proactiv system solution consists of a three step system consisting of a renewing cleanser, a revitalizing toner and a repairing lotion.
The step one renewing cleanser helps exfoliate dead skin cells on the face and cleanse and flush out any bacterium which was helping the acne stick around. The renewing cleanser is unique when compared to many other current acne cleansers in that it is oil-free. The cleanser also contains prescription grade benzoyl peroxide to assist with quickly healing any existing blemishes.
The second step in the Proactive Treatment System is the revitalizing toner. Its job is to unclog any pores of excess dead skin cells, remove any excess oil from the face and balance the skins tone with the help of its alcohol free, botanic mixture. It is suggested to apply the toner with a cotton ball or similar item which would help to get an even layer of the toner onto the face.
The final step in the Proactiv system is the repairing lotion. Step one helped cleanse and flush out the skin, step two helped balance it and remove any excess oil, now its step threes turn to add the last layer of defense on. The repairing lotion is also oil-free and like the renewal cleanser, contains prescription grade benzoyl peroxide. The repairing lotions job is to help heal existing blemishes and help prevent against any future breakouts.
In addition to the three main steps of the system, Proactiv also offers several supplemental products to further protect against acne and help heal the existing breakouts. Two of the most popular and well received of these options are the daily oil control system and the sulfur based refining mask.
The daily oil control mixture is for those with oily skin who wish to keep it balanced while also preventing any excess oil impurities from clogging up the pores. The refining mask is a sulfur based, deep cleansing mask which helps absorb any excess oil deep within the pores in addition to soothing any facial inflammation that’s been caused by acne. Out of the two, the refining mask is commonly included with the basic three step system free of charge.
While the Proactiv system has generally received positive reviews and praise, there has been some negative feedback on it as well. Many people have stated that although the system was successful in cleaning up their acne when they first started to use the product, it began to lose some of its effectiveness over time. It is unknown if these reports were due to careless application of the system or were in fact true. However it’s important to remind ourselves that everyone’s skin is different and while the Proactiv System is a quality and beneficial product for some, it does not work for everyone.
Generally, the product is the most effective for those who experience mild to moderate acne. It’s basically overkill to use for the occasional breakout but is also not strong enough to cure most severe acne cases. It’s all about determining what would be the best plan for you.
